Man is a sinner by nature. It is not just the wrong you do that makes you a sinner. You do not have to commit your own sin to be seen as a sinner before God. Rom 5:19 says
“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”
Man was not created in the beginning this way. Adam the first man sold the entire human race to a life of slavery under satan when he decided to obey satan and disobey God.
“Know ye not that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”(Romans 6:16)
“Wherefore as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression who is the figure of Him that was to come.”(Romans 5:12, 14).
When Adam sinned and the judgement of death was passed on him, the entire human race was also condemned to death because we were all inside him at that time just as Levi was inside Abraham and was seen to have paid tithes to Melchizedek even though he was not yet born (Hebrews 7:9). Adam and the entire human race died first spiritually (separation from God as a result of sin). Physical death was then possible as a result of this separation from God who is the author and giver of life.
An electric fan continues to rotate for as long as it is connected to its source of energy. If it is disconnected from its source of energy, it will begin to lose speed and will eventually come to a halt after some time. Adam could not continue to live apart from God hence he died physically some years after he lost his spiritual life just as the fan gradually loses speed and finally comes to a halt after being disconnected from its source.
When any man dies physically in the state of spiritual death, he then enters eternal death (eternal separation from God). Before any man sins for himself, he is already dead spiritually as far as God’s law is concerned. He inherited the sin nature from Adam which makes him spiritually separated from God.
Apart from this inherited sin nature, there is actually no basis for which any man can stand before God and claim that he has never sinned by himself. His conscience will be the first to condemn him. There is no amount of good works that a man will do that will put him in right standing with God.
Man’s righteousness without God’s grace is like a filthy rag before God. It is like a condemned criminal claiming that he ought not to be put in jail by trying to do good things after the judgement of condemnation has been passed on him. His good works cannot exonerate him.
The bible gives an account of a man called Cornelius who feared God and did a lot of good works to the extent that those around him knew about it and even God bare him record that he feared God and was a good man. However he was not yet saved from his sins despite his good works. God had to ask him in a revelation to send for Apostle Peter so that he can tell him how he can be saved from his sins. (Acts10:1- 48) How then can a man be saved?
Know what God did about sin for you
The problem of sin was addressed legally by God. God could not forgive men without any penalty being paid. If He did, He would become unrighteous and would be likened to a Judge who sets criminals free without them paying for their evil deeds. God had to meet the righteous requirement of the law that demanded that men be condemned and sent to hell.
God had to pay the penalty of man’s transgression in full when He sent Jesus to die for the sins of the entire human race (John3:16, Romans 5:8).
When Jesus died and was sent to hell, He met the righteous requirements of the law (Psalm 16:10; Act2:27, 31, 32; Ephesians 4:9-10; 1Peter 3:18-20; 4:6, 2Corinthians 5:21). Just like in Adam all men died, now in Christ Jesus all men can have access to justification.
“Therefore as by the offense of one judgement came upon all men to condemnation, even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life”(Rom 5:18).
“For He has made Him to be sin for us who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him”(1Cor 5:21).
Today God has offered salvation to all men. This salvation is only found in His son Jesus Christ because He was the one who satisfied the righteous requirements of the law that makes it possible for God to be able to forgive man his sins.
Today, sinners are not sinners primarily because they have sinned but because they have rejected what God did about their sins and that is why they will have to pay the penalty by themselves when they die.
What should you do having known what God did for you in Christ Jesus?
You have to agree before God that you carry the nature of sin and that you deserve His punishment as a result of your sins.
You have to repent and decide to forsake your sins which the devil uses as a legal basis of denying you your rights to God’s free gift of salvation.
You have to come to God in faith and receive His offer of forgiveness which He made to you in Christ Jesus.
You have to use your mouth to confess what you believe God did for you and then accept Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour of your life (Rom 10:8-10). You also have to use your mouth to declare by faith that you have received God’s forgiveness and eternal life and that you are now God’s child just like He promised in His word.
Why wait when you can do it now?
You can accept God’s offer of salvation by praying this prayer in faith. Say
“Oh God, I thank you for sending Jesus to die for my sins. I know I deserve to be punished but I am glad Jesus died for me. I accept what He did on my behalf today. I confess with my mouth what I have believed in my heart that He is my Lord and Saviour. Thank you for saving me. I know that I now have eternal life. I am born again. I am your child. I pray in Jesus name, Amen.”
Congratulations if you just prayed that prayer. You are now a member of God’s family and hence you are entitled to lots of rights and privileges. This is just the beginning.
There are lots of other things you need to know; hence I encourage you to join any Church where God’s word is taught by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. If you already have a Church, you can continue. Just make sure you live right from now onwards by consistently walking in love because you just received the ability to do so.
Spend quality time in your closet talking to God and commit yourself to studying your bible. If you do anything wrong, repent of it immediately and ask God to forgive you and He will forgive you because of what Jesus did on your behalf. This is a provision God made for you to be restored back to fellowship with Him. It is however not a license for you to commit sin.
It is my prayer that God will keep you from falling so that you will retain your testimony till the end in Jesus name, Amen.
If you just gave your life to Jesus Christ or you were restored back to fellowship with God or you want to make some enquiries please contact us through the either our email, phone, facebook account or our mailing address in this magazine.
