The Power of Love is the power of God because God is love. God and love are one and cannot be separated from each other. Wherever you see love in its purest form you see God on display. Everything God does is motivated by love (John 3:16). When the bible says we are created in His image and likeness, it means that we are wired to act by love and nothing else.
The carnal man in his fallen state is motivated by several things: self, ambition, greed, bitterness etc. and when these are our motivation, we might achieve great things but at a high cost.
Psalm 106:15 says “…they received but with leanness of soul”, because it was from a place of lust not love. Love is the balance in all our life endeavours. When love is in the centre, everything desired will be achieved at the right price.
1 John 4:7-12says

“[7] Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. [8] He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. [9] In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. [10] Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. [11] Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. [12] No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.”
From these scriptures it is clear that if God so loved us, and we have received this love, we will love others also. God’s love is the standard of what love is. Now if indeed we love others, every desire, drive, and purpose we have will be motivated by the love of God which will always consider others.

This means that everything we desire to accomplish or do for God will have others as stakeholders in it. Nothing will be done from self, but for the benefit of every stakeholder around. In that effect, I will achieve in ministry but not at the cost of marriage by neglecting the wife and children God gave to me.

At the same time, marriage will not kill the fire of ministry because love in marriage will say do ministry and love in ministry will be concerned about my family welfare. Love will always esteem the other higher than itself, hence ministry will not look down on marriage and marriage will not be jealous of ministry.

The reason we try to separate what God has not separated is because LOVE is not the Centre force of balance. This analogy of marriage and ministry extends to every other area of life.  Love is always trying to out give the other. The attitude that intends to take at the detriment of the other is not of God.

The satisfaction and fulfilment of love is in giving not taking. The greatest satisfaction I have is when I give and then see the joy and benefit it does to the other person. When God was sending Jesus to die, what kept Him going was the joy and hope of seeing us in eternity thankful for such a gift. The power of Love is that it gives greater fulfilment to the giver than the receiver.
I leave in a society where women are afraid of submitting to their husbands according to Ephesians 5:22 because they are afraid he will take advantage of them. However, I always point out Ephesians 5:21 where we are told that the husband is to love his wife first. The issue is that where there is love, there will be no fear of manipulation or control because the aim of love is to give the other the advantage.

God told Abraham to follow Him for his own advantage not just to worship God for the sake of worship but for his own good. God is love. His motive and his power is love. One reason, why we are yet to see the power of God as we desire, is because we do not love people like we ought to.

Whenever we truly love someone else, it is always for our own advantage; whether it be the pastor loving his congregation, the lawyer his client, the lecturer his student, the doctor his patient or the businessman his customer. However, most people show some kind attitude because of an underlying selfish motive which seeks personal gain.

We see some pastors loving members today because they give huge tithes and offerings while some wives love their husbands because of their wealth. The day we start to love for the sake of the other (for their advantage just as Jesus did), the miraculous will kick into our vocations, the doctor will discover new solutions, the lawyer will see beyond the letter of the law, the lecturer will become a mentor and the businessman a God sent experience.
The Power of love is the Power of God.
